If this makes you cry, Cee Lo Green didn’t mean it.
The soul-pop star is canceling his appearance at Sonic Boom due to a herniated disc, say promoters of the Sunday, Sept. 4 festival at the Edmonton Expo Centre.
Local synth-pop stars Christian Hansen & The Autistics have now been added to the lineup, which includes Jane’s Addiction, Metric, Cake, Social Distortion and The Joy Formidable.
This is the third year for Sonic Boom and it certainly hasn’t been the charm for event. In addition to Cee Lo’s injury, the festival had to deal with the temporary health woes of Jane’s Addiction’s frontman Perry Farrell. He was recently plagued with swollen vocal nodes and the band was forced to cancel two shows last weekend — in Reading and Leeds — but he has since recovered and returned to the stage, playing gigs in London, England and Tel Aviv, Israel.
Last month, Sonic Boom promoters decided to move the outdoor festival into the Expo Centre due to weather concerns and less-than-stellar ticket sales. Fans can now buy discounted passes for $35 on Groupon.com. (The original price for general admission tickets was $79.50 plus service charges.)
Sonic Boom isn’t the only event slashing prices. Open Sky Music Festival, Blink-182 and Ke$ha recently offered discounts through various online sites.
